Important collection of international aviation

Ankara Aviation Museum is the second aviation museum in the country. It deals with the military history of aviation in the country. There are countless military aircraft to admire in the indoor and outdoor areas of the 65,000 m² museum grounds.

Large outdoor area with military aircraft

On 18.09.1998 the Aviation Museum in Ankara opened its doors. Located on the northeast side of the Etimesgut airbase in Ankara, the museum has an outdoor area of over 62,000 m². On this outdoor area visitors can see for example a MIG 19 of the Bulgarian Air Force, as well as a MIG 17 from Pakistan.

International and national aviation history

The Aviation Museum is not only the collection point for aircraft belonging to the Turkish Air Force. There are also international aircraft models in the Turkish and world aviation history hall. In this indoor area, other exhibits are displayed on 2,000 square meters.
The Turkish exhibits include countless aircraft that have been used by the Turkish Armed Forces since their inception. These include a helicopter and many other aircraft that were used for training purposes or for transporting goods and troops.

Various exhibitions inside

There are also exhibitions inside about flags and about the orders that have been used since the Ottoman Empire. There are also models of the first types of aircraft manufactured in Turkey called Pezetel and Uğur. There is also an area where the first female pilot of the Republic of Turkey, Sabiha Gökçen, is honored. She herself has provided things from her personal possessions for this exhibition. In the "Blue World" building, inaugurated in 1999, visitors can take a look inside various cockpits, for example that of a T-33 and an F-5 fighter jet.

In 2000, an area was added for aircraft used in commercial aviation worldwide. There are various models to see, as well as more than 70 photos. There is also a wall commemorating pilots who served the military between 1915 and 1949. In the Hall of Remembrance, there are memorabilia of various pilots who died in combat and other heroes.
