The last of the three Izu islands, Aogashima is located far from the "rest of the world" and can only be reached by ferry or helicopter from Hachijojima. The island is home to less than 200 residents and is still considered an undiscovered gem, even from a tourist point of view. Aogashima has impressive landscapes and monuments, including Mount Maruyama, Seijuji Temple and Kanju Monument. Among these, Maruyama Volcano, a volcano in the midst of an even larger volcano, is a remarkable sight. The view from a four hundred meter high lookout point in the middle of Oyamatenbo Park is similarly impressive.
