Clementinum

Clementinum

In the heart of the historical centre of Prague lies the magnificent Baroque building of the Clementinum, a former Jesuit college, which today houses the Czech National Library and other collections. In addition to the Baroque library hall and the atronomic tower, the 2-hectare building complex of the Clementinum also includes several churches: the Church of St. Clement, the Church of St. Salvatore, the Mirror Chapel and the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The Czech National Library

The Baroque hall of the largest Czech library enchants with its impressive ceiling paintings. In addition to the nearly 20,000 historically valuable books, the library houses unique globes, astronomical clocks and interesting paintings of important Jesuit personalities.

The Meridian Hall - Insights into the History of Astronomy

On the second floor of the Astronomical Tower is the Meridian Room. With the help of its special construction, the Jesuits were able to determine the time of noon by the incidence of light. Let yourself be transported back in time. See astronomical measuring instruments that were used to observe stars or other celestial bodies. The Astronomical Institute of Sciences of the Czech Republic is still present on the grounds of the Clementinum.

The Astronomical Tower

From the 68-meter-high Astronomical Tower, visitors to the Clementinum get a breathtaking view of the "City of 1000 Spires." People with a walking disability can take an elevator up to the 3rd floor of the tower.
From there, you can reach the viewpoint via a small climb with a total of 87 steps.

Once at the top, you can be sure: The effort will be rewarded! The ideal location of the tower offers you a panoramic view over the city, which invites you to linger and take pictures.
