Ivory Coast is a West African country on the Atlantic Ocean. It was settled by French missionaries and sailors in the seventeenth century and was known in colonial times for the export of ivory, gold and pepper. The country has a rich wildlife with elephants and monkeys, but also a rocky coast with lagoons and beautiful beaches. Yamoussoukro is the capital and is home to the largest church in Africa, Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix. Other attractions include the Pyramid, a stepped pyramid made of concrete, and Banco National Park with protected rainforest.
