England in northwestern Europe is the largest part of the United Kingdom. The landscape is dominated by lowlands, but numerous mountain ranges run through it. In addition, there are many coastal regions, because England borders on the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the Irish Sea and the English Channel. The country's capital, London, was founded by the Romans as early as 50 A.D. and is now the seat of the British royal family. The city is rich in cultural highlights, which include Tower Bridge, the church of Westminster Abbey, the London Eye Ferris wheel and Big Ben in the clock tower at the Palace of Westminster.
