Macao is a special administrative region on the southern coast of mainland China and was a Portuguese colony until 1999. The city is known for its diversity of cultural influences and its large casinos and shopping malls on the Cotai Strip, which is why it is often referred to as the "Las Vegas of Asia". The main attractions are the 338 m high Macau Tower, the ruins of St. Paul's Church and Senado Square.
