Papua New Guinea is an island nation in the southwestern Pacific Ocean and comprises the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and several offshore islands. The country has exceptional cultural and biological diversity and is known for its beaches and coral reefs. Inland, there are active volcanoes, the granite mountain Mount Wilhelm, dense rainforests, and hiking trails such as the Kokoda Track. Landmarks in the country include the Bismarck Archipelago, the Kokoda Trail, and Milne Bay Province with its offshore islands and coral reefs.
