The U.S. state of Georgia is located in the southeastern United States and borders the states of Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Georgia was founded in 1733 as the last of the thirteen British colonies and played an important role in the War of Independence and the War of Secession. The capital and largest city is Atlanta. Typical for the state are the peach orchards, which earned it the nickname "Peach State", as well as the subtropical flora and fauna. Places of interest include the historic city of Savannah, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta and the Golden Isles on the coast.
