Maine is a state in the northeastern United States and is part of the New England region. It borders New Hampshire and the Atlantic Ocean, and the capital is Augusta. The landscape is characterized by dense forests, rocky coasts, picturesque lighthouses and small coastal villages. Maine is known for its maritime tradition, especially lobster fishing, as well as for its outdoor tourism. The state's history is marked by French and British colonial rule before Maine became the 23rd state in 1820. Among the most famous attractions are Acadia National Park, which showcases the natural beauty of the region, the town of Bar Harbor with its charming atmosphere, and the picturesque Portland Head Light, one of Maine's oldest lighthouses.
