Michigan is a state in the upper Midwest of the USA, consisting of two peninsulas and bordering Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and the Canadian province of Ontario. The capital is Lansing, the largest city Detroit. The name is derived from the Ojibwe word "mishigami," meaning "great water" or "great lake." Michigan was admitted to the Union in 1837 as the 26th state and developed into an important industrial and commercial center, especially for the automotive industry. Michigan's most famous attractions include the Henry Ford Museums and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, which showcase the history of the automotive industry and American culture.
