Mississippi is a state in the south of the United States and belongs to the Southern States region. It borders Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and the Gulf of Mexico. The capital and largest city is Jackson. Mississippi is known for its history, deeply rooted in the American civil rights movement, and for its rich musical tradition, especially the blues. Mississippi's landscape is characterized by rivers, swamps, and forests that form an important ecosystem for numerous species of wildlife. Mississippi's best-known attractions include the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, dedicated to the history and culture of the blues, and the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola. The Natchez Trace Parkway is a scenic national park road originally used by Native Americans as a trade route that runs through the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.
