The state of Ohio is located in the Midwest of the USA and belongs to the Great Lakes region. The capital is Columbus, other important cities are Cleveland and Cincinnati. Historically, Ohio was an important place for Native Americans and later for European settlers. The state played a central role in the American War of Independence and the War of Secession. Typical of Ohio is its mix of agriculture, industry, and urban culture. The state is known for its contributions to aeronautics and space travel, including the Wright Brothers and astronaut Neil Armstrong. Among the best-known attractions are Cedar Point Amusement Park, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland and the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton. Hocking Hills State Park and Cuyahoga Valley National Park offer nature lovers unique landscapes and numerous outdoor activities. Visitors can also learn about the life of the Amish community in Amish Country or visit Serpent Mound, an impressive prehistoric site.
