Oklahoma is a state in the south of the USA. It is located north of Texas and borders Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. The capital is Oklahoma City, which is also the largest city in the state. Oklahoma's history goes way back to the Native Americans who inhabited the land before the arrival of Europeans. Oklahoma was once known as "Indian Country" and is still home to many indigenous peoples. Typical of Oklahoma are the Great Plains, which run throughout the state and offer vast, open landscapes. Landmarks and places of interest in Oklahoma include the Oklahoma City National Memorial, the Myriad Botanical Gardens and the Philbrook Museum of Art. The historic Route 66, which runs through Oklahoma, also attracts many tourists. In addition, the state offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and whitewater rafting.
