Vermont is a state in the northeastern United States and is part of the New England region. It borders New York to the west, Massachusetts to the south and New Hampshire to the east. The capital of Vermont is Montpelier, and the largest city is Burlington. Vermont is known for its scenic landscapes, including the Green Mountains that run across the state. Vermont is also famous for the production of maple syrup and cheese. Agriculture plays an important role in the state's economy. Touristically, Vermont is especially popular in the fall when the leaves on the trees turn spectacular colors. Visitors can hike and bike in the beautiful countryside or visit ski resorts such as Stowe and Killington in the winter. Other attractions include historic sites such as the Shelburne Museum and the town of Woodstock with its well-preserved architecture.
