Wyoming is a state in the west of the USA. It borders Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah and Idaho. The state played an important role in opening up the West with the transcontinental railroad and the Pony Express route. Wyoming's capital is Cheyenne, and its largest city is Casper. Typical of Wyoming is its sparsely populated, vast landscape of mountains, prairies and deserts. The state's economy is based primarily on resource extraction, agriculture and tourism. Wyoming's most famous attractions include Yellowstone National Park, the world's first national park and known for its impressive geysers and hot springs, and Grand Teton National Park with its scenic mountain landscape. Other attractions include Flaming Gorge and Devils Tower, an impressive geological landmark. Wyoming offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, skiing and whitewater rafting. The historic town of Cody, named after the Wild West hero Buffalo Bill, is a popular destination for history buffs and Western fans.
