Genclik Park

A park of rest and relaxation

In the middle of Ankara lies the attractively designed Genclik Park, which serves as an oasis of calm for the city's residents and visitors. Thanks to its pretty design and many recreational opportunities, it is very popular and is characterized by a friendly atmosphere.

A place with an eventful history

When Ankara was named as the new capital of Turkey in 1923, there were plans to make it a very green city and to create many parks and green spaces. Today's Genclik Park played an important role in the first plans in this direction and was finally opened 20 years later in 1943. It was considered a model park at the time and its water areas provided opportunities for swimming, rowing and sailing. Its location opposite Ankara's bus station also attracted a lot of attention.

Once a park of attractions

Within a few years of its opening, Genclik Park saw the construction of some very popular attractions, such as an amusement park and a small railway. Furthermore, the park was known for its so-called Gazinos, which were concert stages, until it was remodeled in 2006. As time went by, the entertainment facilities became more and more important and the green areas of the Genclik Park suffered a lot, so the park could not fulfil its actual purpose as the green lung of Ankara.

Very popular with families

Charming and scenic, this is how Genclik Park has presented itself since its complete renovation in 2009. Today, there is hardly anything left to remind us of its former days as an amusement park, as all the buildings in the park, with the exception of the largest Gazinos, have now been demolished and replaced by magnificent green spaces. Particularly impressive are the fountains in the artificial lake of the complex, which in the evening offer a show with background music and also serve as a projection screen for a fabulous picture show.
