Haci Bayram Mosque

Ankara's Sufi Order Center Worth Seeing

The most famous mosque in Ankara goes back to the poet and founder of the order Haci Bayram. Today, the Haci Bayram Mosque, named after the famous dervish, is a kind of pilgrimage site for Sufists, as Haci Bayram's tomb is also located in the mosque.

The Foundation of the Bairami Order

Basically, the story of the Haci Bayram Mosque begins before the founding of the Bairami Order. The life of Haji Bayram, who came from a small village near Ankara, was changed by his spiritual guide Somunja Baba. After a joint pilgrimage to Mecca, during which Bayram continued to study Sufism in depth, his faith intensified and after the death of his spiritual guide in 1412, Bayram became a scholar himself and returned to Ankara as a sheikh of the order. He built a dervish lodge in Ankara, on the site of which the Haci Bayram Mosque was built between 1427 and 1428 in honour of the renowned Salafist.

The mausoleum of the order leader

Right next to the Haci Bayram Mosque is the mausoleum of Haci Bayram Türbesi. This is the last resting place of the spiritual leader. The mausoleum is as worth seeing as the mosque itself. All year round, the tomb of Haci Bayram attracts devout Sufists from all over the world, the spiritual leader who founded the Bairami Order in Ankara in 1400. Today, the biography of Haci Bayram is also posted in Turkish, so that the life story of this extraordinary man is not forgotten.
