Iriomote is the second largest island in Okinawa Prefecture and home to the Iriomote wild cat, an endangered native cat breed. Its unique climate is considered an ideal environment for a wide variety of animal and plant species. The island's beaches are known for their pristine nature and do not have lifeguards or catch nets for jellyfish. Swimmers should therefore assess their abilities carefully before venturing into the water here. Iriomote is an island that thrives on wildness and naturalness, with little organized tourism. But it does offer a number of surprising ways to pass the time, including a ride in a traditional buffalo cart!
