The island of Rishiri is known for its volcano Rishiri-Fuji. Mount Rishiri offers visitors a panoramic view of the island's forests. In clear weather, even the Russian island of Sakhalin can be seen on the horizon. In July, the official climbing season opens with a festival. However, hiking and climbing is often possible as early as June, weather permitting. For all climbing routes, it is advisable to be well prepared and pay attention to a balanced training, as the trails are sometimes quite demanding. Rishiri's alpine flora consists of unique plants found only on this island.
