Limnos
With 480 km², Limnos is one of the ten largest islands in Greece. The rather desert-like landscape in the northwest with its ruins from antiquity gives a vague idea of the importance Limnos must have once had in pre-Christian times. Today the island offers you unique natural treasures to discover. Among the sights are the castle of Myrina, the island's capital, and the Stone Age settlement of Poliochni. It is dated back to several millennia before the birth of Christ and is considered the oldest city in Europe. Ancient treasures, salt lakes and surfing paradises in the east of the island, the volcanic rocks of Falakro as well as wide beaches make Limnos a vacation highlight in the Aegean Sea.
The ferry port on the island of Limnos offers connections to the other Greek islands of Chios, Samothrace, Fournoi, Patmos, Ikaria, Leros, Mykonos, Lesbos, Samos, Agios Efstratios and Syros, as well as to the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli and Kavala on the Greek mainland. Agios Efstratios
The island and its only village were almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1968. Agios Efstratios is very barren, but has beautiful sandy beaches and impressive cliffs. There are no cars here, you can reach the beaches by boat or on foot. The museum commemorates the years as an island in exile during the military dictatorship 1967-1974. The only village on the island is located in a valley formed by two dried up riverbeds. Ai Stratis, with its 250 permanent inhabitants, fascinates many tourists because it moves at its own pace and is cut off from the rest of the world by chance or temperament.
