Lipari
Lipari, namesake and largest of the Lipari Islands, impresses with its picturesque harbor town. The ruins date back to the Bronze Age and tell of the long, eventful history. Greeks and Romans, Saracens and Normans fought over the island. In addition to buildings from ancient times, you will find a citadel on the island that dates back to Charles V, and several imposing churches such as the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo with its impressive Baroque altar. From the Belvedere Quattrocchi you have the most beautiful view of the sea and the neighboring island of Vulcano across the Valle Muria. On Corso Vittorio you will find many restaurants and cafes that invite you to linger.
The ferry port on the island of Lipari offers connections to the other Italian islands of Stromboli, Salina, Sicily, Alicudi, Panarea, Vulcano and Filicudi, as well as to the ports of Vibo Valentia, Sapri, Reggio Calabria, Naples and Ginostra on the Italian mainland. Filicudi
Filicudi is the oldest of the Aeolian sister islands. It is located in the west of the group with its three volcanoes. Monte Fossa delle Felci, Lavadom Monte Montagnola and Torrione are inactive and can be visited. From Monte Fossa delle Felci you can see as far as Sicily. The island is largely uninhabited. Only about 100 people live here in the old port of Pecorini, in Valdichiesa and on the southern slope. The aroma of herbs, oleander and broom hangs in the air. The special thing about Filicudi are its numerous grottos. According to legend, many different mythical creatures live here. In the midday heat of the Mediterranean sun, you may be able to catch a glimpse of them yourself.
