Sainte-Chapelle

On the Île de la Cité, just a few hundred metres from Notre Dame Cathedral, in the courtyard of the Palace of Justice, lies Sainte-Chapelle, the Holy Chapel. This masterpiece of High Gothic architecture was built in 1246-1248 by order of Louis the Saint, as the repository of a thorn from the crown of thorns of Jesus Christ.

What fascinates visitors about this building are the 12-metre high stained glass windows and the walls painted in bright blue and red. Similar to Notre Dame, tourists can't help but be amazed as soon as they feel the special atmosphere created by the stained glass windows.
