San Domino is the largest and most touristically developed island of the Tremiti Islands, which belong to the Italian region of Apulia in the Adriatic Sea. It is located around 22 kilometers from the Gargano peninsula and is known for its steep limestone cliffs, pine forests and beautiful beaches. The island is also an important part of the Gargano Nature Park and attracts many visitors due to its diverse flora and fauna and clear waters.

San Domino is part of the Tremiti Islands, which also include San Nicola, Capraia, Pianosa and Cretaccio. Under Mussolini's fascist regime, it served as a place of exile for homosexuals in the 1930s. Various memorials and monuments on the island commemorate this dark chapter. It was not until the middle of the 20th century that a small village was built on the island, which today has around 230 inhabitants in the high season.

Most tourists only visit San Domino for a day trip, but those who stay longer can explore the island at a more relaxed pace. The island is well developed for tourism and, despite its remoteness, offers a range of amenities for visitors. A shuttle service between San Domino and the neighboring island of San Nicola makes it easy to reach and explore the neighboring islands as well.

In addition to its natural beauty, San Domino offers a range of attractions and activities. The island's only sandy beach, Cala delle Arene, attracts many visitors with its almost white sand and turquoise blue water. There are also small coves and grottos to discover, such as the Grotta delle Viole, where violets bloom in spring.

Due to the well-protected ecosystem, the island is also a popular diving and snorkeling spot, and underwater you can admire an impressive underwater statue of Padre Pio, who is venerated as a saint in Italy. Hiking enthusiasts will find numerous hiking trails through pine and Aleppo pine forests on San Domino, and birdwatchers will also get their money's worth.
