English Channel

The English Channel is a strait in the Atlantic Ocean that was formed about 10,000 years ago. It measures 563 kilometers in length and 248 kilometers at its widest point. Its narrowest extent is the "Strait of Dover," which stretches between the port city of the same name in England and the French coastal town of Calais. Here, there are only 34 km of water between the states. Therefore, with good visibility, it is possible to see the land mass on the other side of the English Channel. A ferry and the 50 km long Eurotunnel serve as transport links. In the strait itself are the so-called Channel Islands, which belong to the territory of Great Britain.
