The Pacific Ocean, or Pacific for short, is by far the largest of the world's three oceans. Topographically, the Pacific Ocean lies between Australia and Asia to the west and from the Americas to the east. When all of its tributary seas are added, it nearly reaches the size of all other seas on the globe combined. In its entirety, it is also larger than all the continents of the earth put together. In the western half of the Pacific there are large islands like New Zealand or New Guinea, but in this ocean there are mainly smaller islands. These island groupings are often called "Oceania", as if they were a separate continent. The Mariana Trench is also found in the Pacific Ocean, and with its 11,000 meters depth at the top, it is the deepest place on earth.
