Steam Packet is best known for being the oldest shipping company in the world with continuous passenger service. The company was founded as early as 1830 and is now owned by the Australian investment bank Macquarie Bank.

Connections

The fleet currently includes the Ben-my-Chree and the HSC Manannan, two ships that connect the Isle of Man with the ports of Birkenhead, Heysham and Liverpool in Great Britain, Belfast in Northern Ireland and Dublin in Ireland.

For each of the connections, you should allow approximately the following amount of time:

  • Isle of Man - Heysham: 3 hours 45 minutes.
  • Isle of Man - Liverpool: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Belfast: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Birkenhead: 4 hours 45 minutes
  • Isle of Man - Dublin: 2 hours 55 minutes

Discounts

Special discounts are available for day trips as well as for "Short Breaks" (outbound and return within five days).

Children from 0 to 3 years old are carried free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Children and teenagers from 4 to 15 years of age are also granted a reduced fare for the crossing.

Transportation conditions

Passengers should arrive at check-in at least 25 minutes before departure. Those wishing to board by car should arrive at the car stand in the entrance area of the respective port 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The port in Douglas is easily accessible by local bus. The nearest station is about 400 meters away.

Pets can be taken in your own vehicle free of charge. On the ship Ben-my-Chree can use the facilities for pets on board for a fee of 10 pounds.

No separate fee is charged for luggage.
