Italy

Tirrenia (in full "Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione") is an Italian ferry company based in Naples. Its name derives from Tyrrhenian Sea, the main area of operation of the ships. Tirrenia is the parent company of a large group of various Italian regional shipping companies such as Caremar, Saremar, Siremar and Moby Lines.

Tirrenia's main business is connections from the Italian mainland to Sardinia. In addition, there is one connection each to Sicily and to the small Tremiti Islands (Isole di Tremiti). From Exactly and Civitavecchia, the ports of Olbia, Porto Torres and Arbatax on Sardinia are served. From the port of Civitavecchia, located near Rome, as well as from Naples, there is also a service to the island capital of Cagliari, located in southern Sardinia. From Naples there is another connection to Palermo in Sicily. Most routes are served once a day throughout the year.

The only connection that is not in the Tyrrhenian Sea is the trip from the port of Termoli on Italy's east coast to the small island group of Isole Tremiti. This connection is operated two to three times a day all year round; the arrival is usually the main island of San Domino, on Tuesdays and Thursdays the port of the smaller neighboring island of San Nicola is served.

Tirrenia currently operates a fleet of seven vessels. All are conventional displacement vessels with capacities ranging from 1400 to 2900 passengers. Cruising speeds are quite high, ranging from 22 to 26.5 knots, which allows for short sailing times despite the sometimes considerable distances involved. Onboard facilities include restaurants (some self-service) as well as bars, public telephones, children's areas and some video facilities. Cabins are available for some passengers. Special services include "pet owner cabins," where you can take a pet, and in-cabin catering service.
