In 1948, a shipping company was established to start passenger traffic from Vaasa in Finland to Umeå in Sweden. The first ships were steamers, suitable only for summer traffic. In 1958, an investor joined the company, with whose funds the first car ferry was purchased. The company expanded in the following decades, but floundered in the 1990s and had to discontinue ferry services across the Kvarken in 1993.

In 2001, the newly founded Wasaline set itself the goal of reviving this northernmost year-round ferry crossing in the world. Scenic, the Wasaline route passes through Unesco's natural heritage. The company presents itself as a small shipping company with a big heart - and great responsibility for the environment.

In addition to the Wasa Express ferry, Wasaline will operate the Aurora Botnia, the world's most environmentally friendly passenger ship, from 2021. Regardless of which of the two ships: Wasaline shows itself to be reliable, friendly and quality-conscious. Every employee there wants customers to feel welcome and their crossing to be an unforgettable experience.

Wasa Express offers pleasant ways of staying during the trip. For example, guests can relax in comfortable lounge seats or travel in comfort in their own cabin with a bathroom. There are also special cabins for passengers with reduced mobility or for people traveling with animals.

Boredom will not arise during the journey across the Kvarken. Thus, an interesting entertainment offer is provided for young and old. Children can romp in a dedicated playroom and adults can store in the ship's store. The store offers wines, perfumes, great local products and much more. The restaurant on board serves delicious regional dishes and selected wines.
