With its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Tuscany is one of Italy's most characteristic regions. It stretches over around 23,000 square kilometers and is located in the center of Italy, with the Tyrrhenian Sea forming the western border. The region is known for its rolling hills with terracotta-colored villas, olive groves and vineyards and attracts tourists from all over the world.

Tuscany - rolling hills and beautiful coastlines

Agriculture plays a central role in the Tuscan economy. Viticulture in particular has a long tradition here. The Chianti region is just one of many DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) wine-growing areas whose products are internationally renowned for their quality. Tuscan olive oil also enjoys an excellent reputation and is an important export product.

Florence, the capital of the region, is the heart of the Tuscan Renaissance and the birthplace of some of the greatest artists and thinkers in history, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. The city is a living museum with countless works of art and architecture from this golden age, including the famous Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its impressive dome by Filippo Brunelleschi and the Uffizi Gallery, which houses Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and other masterpieces.

But not only Florence, but also cities such as Siena, Pisa and Lucca contribute to the cultural diversity of Tuscany. Siena, famous for the historic Palio, a traditional horse race that takes place twice a year, attracts visitors with its medieval charm and impressive squares. Pisa attracts visitors with its "Leaning Tower" and an ensemble of World Heritage-listed buildings, while Lucca impresses with its intact Renaissance city walls.

Tuscany's natural landscape is as diverse as its cities. The Apuan Alps offer breathtaking scenery and hiking trails, while the island of Elba and the Maremma coast with its beaches and nature reserves invite you to relax.

In terms of climate, Tuscany is characterized by mild winters and hot, dry summers, which favours the cultivation of wine and olives. Climate change is a growing concern for the region, as extreme weather events such as droughts and floods are increasingly affecting agriculture and tourism.
