Art House Vienna

Museum Hundertwasser

The Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who caused a sensation both as a painter and architect, is a dazzling figure of the Viennese art world, to whom the Kunst Haus Wien is dedicated. Designed by Hundertwasser, the building in which the Kunst Haus Wien is located is very striking and inspires with its extraordinary appearance.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser - an artist with his own style

The works of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, which are often worth seeing, are characterised by the intensive accentuation of colours and extraordinary forms. One can convince oneself of the subtleties of his works in the Kunst Haus Wien, especially on the 1st and 2nd floor, as these floors are completely dedicated to Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

The other floors of the museum, however, are available for changing exhibitions of international artists. In order to make it possible to design a place for the works of Friedensreich Hundertwasser in such a way that it corresponds to the artist's ideas, a former furniture factory was redesigned accordingly. Especially important to the makers of the museum was the possibility to design the building according to Friedensreich Hundertwasser's architectural ideas and to have enough space for additional exhibitions.

The Kunst Haus Wien - architecture that inspires.

The most fascinating thing about the Kunst Haus Wien is the unique architecture, which, as usual in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's buildings, gets along without straight lines to a large extent. Since Friedensreich Hundertwasser opposes a standardisation of forms with his works, some surprising architectural features can be marvelled at in the Kunst Haus Wien. For example, the floor in some areas of the Kunst Haus Wien is uneven, which the artist justifies with the fact that this counteracts the levelling urban development.

Furthermore, the surfaces in the Kunst Haus Wien are dominated by coloured ceramics and mosaics, which lends the museum a very unique atmosphere. The design features characterize all the rooms, including the adjoining restaurant, which has similarities to a winter garden.
