By car to Malmö

Malmö is very easy to reach by car from Germany. Basically there are three possibilities for the journey from Germany to Malmö.

Direct to Sweden by ferry

From Travemünde there is a direct ferry connection to Malmö. The shipping company Finnlines offers up to 3 departures daily (midday, evening, night). There are further connections to southern Sweden from Rostock, Kiel and Sassnitz.

Across Denmark without a ferry

Since the opening of the Öresund Bridge, Malmö can easily be reached by land. If you prefer to avoid ferries, you can also reach Sweden directly via the motorway. The scenic drive takes you through almost the whole of Denmark, and from Hamburg it takes just over 5 hours (approx. 500 km).

Via Denmark by ferry

The shortest route from Germany to Malmö is via the so-called "Vogelfluglinie": First by ferry from Puttgarden on Fehmarn to Rødby in Denmark and then across the Öresund Bridge to Sweden. This route also takes about 5 hours from Hamburg, but you save about 150 km of distance.
