Idstein

Idstein is a town in the Taunus region between Limburg an der Lahn and Frankfurt am Main. The town is known for its old half-timbered houses that surround the medieval town center. Idstein was first mentioned in 1102 and was ruled by Count Adolf von Nassau-Idstein and Rudolf von Habsburg in the 13th century. From the 17th century, the town was the scene of witch hunts under Count Johannes von Nassau. The town can look back on a rich history, to which many buildings and monuments still bear witness today. The most important sights include the castle with the witches' tower, Idstein Castle, the Union Church and the town museum.

Where is Idstein?

Idstein is a German city in the southwest of the federal state of Hesse. It is located in the district of Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, around 17 km northeast of the district city Bad Schwalbach. There are about 25.000 inhabitants living in Idstein.

Idstein also includes the formerly independent municipalities of Oberauroff, Ehrenbach, Eschenhahn, Niederauroff, Dasbach, Walsdorf, Wörsdorf, Heftrich, Kröftel, Nieder-Oberrod and Lenzhahn.
