Kurfürstendamm

Kurfürstendamm, popularly known as Ku'damm, is one of the most famous streets in Berlin. The popular shopping mile offers branches of trendy labels and classy brands as well as large fashion chains and high-priced designer stores. Lined and overgrown with lime trees, the wide sidewalk invites you to stroll, window-shop, store and stop off at one of the many restaurants.

The street takes its name from the former Electors (Kurfürsten) of Brandenburg. This very wide, long boulevard can be called the Champs-Élysées of Berlin - full of stores, houses, hotels and restaurants. In particular, many fashion designers have their stores there, as well as several car manufacturers have their showrooms.

The avenue with four lines of plane trees runs 3.5 km through the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district in the west of Berlin. It branches off from Breitscheidplatz near Bahnhof Zoo and the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and runs southwest through the Charlottenburg district.

At the junction with Joachimstaler Straße, the Ku'damm passes the Café Kranzler, successor to the Café des Westens, a famous place for artists. Close to the Uhlandstrasse subway station is the Kempinski Hotel and the Theater am Kurfürstendamm on the site of a former exhibition hall of the Berlin Secession art association.

Tauentzienstraße, an extension of Ku'damm, is home to one of Europe's largest department stores, the world-famous KaDeWe department store.
