Luxor

Your travel guide for Luxor
Luxor (meaning "the city of palaces") is a major Egyptian city with almost 500,000 inhabitants on the eastern bank of the Nile. It is also the largest of all Upper Egyptian cities. It is the administrative center of the governorate of Al-Uqsur.

Luxor has excellent connections to international air traffic. In ancient Egypt, Luxor was a well-known temple city of the then royal metropolis of Thebes. The big tourist attraction is therefore, how could it be otherwise, a temple, namely the Temple of Luxor. It was built in honor of the god Amun. One of the obelisks from the temple is now located in Paris on the Place de la Concorde. More recent finds from the area are presented to visitors in the Luxor Museum. Also worth a visit are the colossal statues of Ramses II and the promenade on the banks of the Nile.
