Zoological Museum

Musée Zoologique
The Zoological Museum in Strasbourg has one of the most extensive natural history collections in France. The magnificent neo-Renaissance building dates from 1893 and was designed by the German architect Otto Warth.

A museum that enchants young and old alike

Visitors of all ages can marvel at a varied and amazing collection of zoological objects at the Strasbourg Zoological Museum. In addition, it not only provides a comprehensive picture of the fauna and animal world worldwide. The museum equally has a wide selection of regional fauna and flora. In addition, the museum offers visitors a fabulous opportunity to discover - and, above all, appreciate - the richness and diversity of our planet and nature. In the bird gallery alone, animal lovers can look forward to some 3000 specimens of feathered creatures.

Animal life from all over the world

An extensive collection of exhibits from all five continents can be found in the halls of the Zoological Museum. Among them are preserved animals, skeletons, skins, eggs and nests from all over the world. Reconstructed in magnificent and lifelike scenes, the museum allows visitors to experience animal specimens in natural habitats. Faraway places such as the Arctic and Antarctica, Lake Tanganyika and the Andes thus come right to the heart of Europe. There are also impressive rooms dedicated to extinct species.

Have fun - and learn something along the way

The history of the museum itself, rich in tradition, is also illuminated. Using items from Johann Hermann's natural history collection, visitors can gain an insight into the work of scientists and researchers of the past.
The Zoological Museum also houses countless temporary exhibitions. Workshops on various topics are regularly offered for interested visitors and children. At the end of the tour there is a museum store and a library. Adults and children can browse books about the animal world here as they please. Often there are also readings and lectures.
