Passau

Travel Guide & Travel Information
The "three-river city" on the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers and the border with Austria is the second largest city in the administrative district of Lower Bavaria with a current population of just over 53,000. The cradle of Passau was the Roman fort "Batavis" built around the middle of the 1st century. In the 8th century the city became a bishopric and in the 13th century a prince-bishopric. For a long time Passau has been the start and destination of cruises on the Danube from/to Vienna and Budapest. Also bicycle lovers appreciate the location on the Danube, Inn as well as Tauern cycle paths. Among the most famous architectural sights are the Veste Oberhaus from the 13th and St. Stephen's Cathedral from the 14th to 17th centuries.
