Rosendal Castle

Royal pleasure palace on the island of Djurgården

Rosendal Castle is located behind the Skansen open-air museum on the island of Djurgården and is one of Sweden's eleven royal castles.

It was built between 1823 and 1827 as a summer pleasure palace for King Charles XIV John, the founder of the Swedish royal house of Bernadotte. The castle is open to visitors during the summer months.

Right next to the castle is Rosendals trädgård, a beautiful garden with many flower beds, orchards, a nursery and several greenhouses. The café within the garden (Rosendals Trädgårdskafé) is particularly recommended and is a very popular destination, especially in the summer months. Rosendals Trädgård was established between 1861 and 1911 by the Swedish Garden Association, and is now run by a foundation (Stiftelsen Rosendals Trädgård).
