Schloss Belvedere

Baroque castle and art museum

The Belvedere Palace is one of the most popular and impressive cultural sights in Vienna. The baroque palace was built at the beginning of the 18th century by Prince Eugene of Savoy and today houses one of the most impressive art exhibitions in Austria.

Most visited art exhibition in Austria

The palace was completed in 1723 and served as the summer residence of the prince at the time. It gained historical relevance through the Austrian State Treaty, which was signed by the Allies and the government of Austria at Belvedere in 1955.

Today it houses the most visited art exhibition in all of Austria. The palace is divided into three sections, each of which can be visited individually. Barrier-free access is possible to almost all places of visit.

Upper Belvedere

The upper part of the palace was built to complement the lower part and served not as a residence but as a place of representation. Today visitors will find an impressive collection of art from the Middle Ages, Baroque, Classicism and Biedermeier periods to Viennese Modernism. Gustav Klimt's painting "The Kiss" is particularly famous and can also be seen in this exhibition.

Lower Belvedere

The lower palace originally served as a residential residence for the Prince of Savoy. Parts of the rooms of this eccentric builder can still be visited today. In the former stables there is also another exhibition of medieval art. An impressive garden adjoins the lower Belvedere.

Belvedere 21

The modern Belvedere 21 adjoins the gardens of the lower Belvedere and shows Austrian and international modern art. Temporary exhibitions on music, film and culture are housed here.
