St. Peter's Church

The oldest building in Malmö

Behind the city hall on Stortorget is St. Peter's Church from the 14th century. The Gothic brick building is the oldest surviving building in the city of Malmö and one of the largest churches in Sweden.

Baroque splendour and paintings from the late Middle Ages

The relatively unadorned interior was only created during the Reformation in the 16th century, when all the walls and vaults were covered over with white paint

Only in the Krämerkapelle (immediately to the left of the entrance) could wall and ceiling paintings from the 15th century be uncovered and restored, which were rediscovered in the 20th century.

The magnificent baroque altar from 1611 (the largest in Northern Europe), the baroque pulpit from 1599 and the baptismal font from 1601 are also worth seeing.
