Vienna Prater

Amusement park with famous Ferris wheel

Most people first associate the Prater with Vienna's landmark: the Ferris wheel. But the amusement park in which this tourist magnet is located only makes up a small part of the Prater in terms of area. The extensive area in the district of Leopoldstadt mainly offers beautiful nature, which forms the diversion program to the sightseeing in the city.

2500 trees line the main avenue

A wide Chaussee leads like a green main artery from the square "Praterstern", which is designed in the shape of a roundabout, to the restaurant "Lusthaus". This 4.5 kilometre long path is lined with 2500 trees and is perfect for a long walk. But visitors can also discover the BMX track or the stadium pool here by bike or in style with a horse-drawn carriage. Away from this main avenue, an area of forests, former arms of the Danube and meadows is the place to relax and enjoy nature. Also worth seeing is the small man-made duck pond on Konstantinhügel.

In the amusement park "Wurstelprater" you can see the famous Ferris wheel.

The most famous part of the Prater is the amusement park. Here you can find the famous Ferris wheel, which is one of the most important landmarks of the city. Unofficially, the area is called "Wurstelprater". The name originated from the reference to the character "Hanswurst". In addition to the Ferris wheel, rides such as roller coasters, wave ride or ghost train offer fun and thrills. A large culinary variety provides for the physical well-being and with the "Republic of Kugelmugel" is here the smallest state of the world, which consists of only one inhabitant. The whole amusement park and also parts outside this area can be explored wonderfully with the "Liliputbahn".

Conclusion: No matter if as a visitor of the Austrian capital one is looking for the pleasure or the relaxation: The Vienna Prater combines both needs in a perfect way. A visit should therefore not be missed during a holiday in Vienna.
