West Port

From industrial ruin to Malmö's most attractive district

The new district of Västra Hamnen is worth a visit not only because of the Turning Torso and the great view of the Öresund Bridge.

The western harbour(västra hamnen) in Malmö was used by a shipyard and a car manufacturer until the 1970s. Structural change led to an economic crisis in the 80s and the closure of the shipyard, but was quickly recognized by the city as an opportunity. Today, Westhafen is a playground for modern architecture and represents the dynamism of the Swedish metropolis. Cars have been almost completely locked out of the district.

Västra Hamnen consists of buildings that are powered by regenerative energy and integrate ecological concepts. In addition, media agencies and companies from the IT sector have settled in the Westhafen.

The main attraction for tourists are the trendy cafés and restaurants, from which you can enjoy the view of the sophisticated Turning Torso.

A popular bathing spot is also located here: the Scaniabadet.
