Wittenberg

First mentioned in 1180, the town of Wittenberg is inextricably linked with the Reformation and the person and work of Martin Luther. It was here that the reformer Martin Luther lived and worked for more than 40 years and, according to legend, he posted the famous 95 theses on the entrance to the castle church on October 31, 1517. Today, Luther's monastery and residence is a museum with paintings and some of his personal belongings.
