Görlitz has always been located at the crossroads of important trade routes and was first mentioned in a document in 1071. The "Pearl of Upper Lusatia" has numerous magnificent Gothic and Renaissance buildings. The lively center of the city is located between Postplatz and Demianiplatz. On Marienplatz, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) from the 15th century is one of the oldest buildings in the city. On Obermarkt, baroque buildings predominate, above all the "Napoleonhaus". The medieval city center can be found at Untermarkt.
