Hanover

Travel Guide & Travel Information
Hanover is not considered the classic destination for a city trip. But if you don't pay attention to the capital of Lower Saxony, you're missing out: a city hall so big and pompous that it's more like a castle, Schloss Herrenhaus with several gardens worth seeing, and Maschsee, a lake in the middle of the city that was artificially created in the 1930s. Today it is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts, and its shoreline path attracts cyclists, joggers and walkers.

The state capital is the economic and cultural heart of Lower Saxony. The numerous cultural monuments and historical sites attract many tourists. Nevertheless, you can always find a quiet place to relax in Hannover, for example at the Maschsee or in the Herrenhäuser Gardens. Here you can experience three centuries of European garden design. The city on the Leine leads you through numerous eras. The Market Church combines an originally Romanesque church with a Gothic brick hall building and is the city's landmark. The Guelph Castle from the 19th century now houses parts of the university. Hanover is a lively trade fair city. Exciting pubs and cultural highlights await night owls.
