Goetheborgs Utkiken

The viewing platform in the "lipstick" Lilla Bommen

The striking läppstiftet ("the lipstick") skyscraper has become a modern landmark in the city of Gothenburg. On the top floor of the building, which was completed in 1989, there is an observation deck with a unique panoramic view of the city and harbour. Absolutely recommendable!

Skanskrakrapan or "the lipstick"

The 86-metre-high office building was designed by the well-known architect Ralph Erskine (1914-2005) in collaboration with Scandinavia's largest architectural firm, White arkitekter. In 1982, the construction company Skanska began with the construction work, the skyscraper was then completed in 1989.

The postmodern design and the unusual colouring initially caused a lot of discussion and also criticism among the population, but today it is one of the landmarks of the city. Somewhat derisively, the rather unconventional high-rise is usually referred to as läppstifet ("the lipstick"). Officially, the building is called "Lilla Bommen", just like the nearby marina. Another name is Skanskaskrapan ("the Skanska skyscraper"), in reference to the name of the construction company.

Accessible to all Gothenburgers

Lilla Bommen is not just an office building, but was planned by Ralph Erskine to be open and accessible to all Gothenburgers. So in addition to restaurants, there is also a bank, several shops, conference rooms and a fitness centre. And of course there is the observation deck on the top floor, from where you can see all the way to the archipelago in good weather. There is also a cafe there.
