Liseberg

The largest amusement park in Scandinavia

Liseberg is not only Gothenburg's most famous landmark, but also the largest amusement park in Sweden and all of Scandinavia. With a size of 20,000 square meters, Liseberg is significantly larger than Gröna Lund in Stockholm and Tivoli in Copenhagen.

It was founded in 1923 and cracked the one million visitor mark just thirteen years later. Liseberg is Sweden's most popular tourist destination, with around three million visitors annually. Main attractions include a sixty-meter-high Ferris wheel (which had been located downtown for a short time), FlumeRide (bring a change of dry clothes), and Balder, a wooden roller coaster and steepest of its kind in the world. Since 2014 there is also the roller coaster Helix.

While Liseberg used to be closed in winter, a very popular Christmas market (the largest in Sweden) is now held here, with carousels and animals or skating for children and stalls with Swedish handicrafts and culinary highlights for adults. There is also a Julbord, which is the Christmas version of the Smörgåsbord. However, many of the rides are closed during the winter.
