Gothenburg City Museum

The history of Gothenburg from the Viking Age until today
The Gothenburg City Museum is located right next to the German Church in the former East India Company building, a magnificent building from 1750.

In addition to the history of Gothenburg and western Sweden, the museum deals with topics related to the archaeology and cultural history of the city. A special exhibit are the remains of a real Viking ship.

Another exhibition tells the story of the Swedish East India Company, which traded with East Asia between 1731 and 1813. The most important business at that time was the import of tea from the Empire of China.
